National Water Week

National Drinking Water Week is celebrated throughout the United States during the first full week of May each year.  This observance provides a great opportunity for utilities to educate the public on how they get their drinking water (reservoirs and groundwater), how it reaches their homes (distribution systems), how public water systems ensure the quality of their water (source protection, treatment, and testing), and how we can all help to make sure we have enough water for everyone (water conservation).

For a decade the Wentzville Water Dept. has celebrated Drinking Water Week annually with an education program and scholarship contest.  All fifth grade students in the City of Wentzville receive education packages.  College bound seniors of Timberland and Holt High Schools are invited to compete in the Fire Hydrant Painting Contest.  One student from each school is awarded a two thousand dollar scholarship to assist pursuance of higher education.  All competing entries are displayed at Water Tower Four (802 E. Pearce Blvd) throughout May.  The two winners are displayed in the Public Works lobby (200 E. Fourth) for one year.  Last years winning hydrants can be seen here.
