The City of Wentzville currently utilizes a Council-Administrator form of city government. The position of the Wentzville City Administrator was created on December 14, 1988.
Under this form, the Board of Aldermen has broad legislative authority that includes formulating and adopting policy, approving the budget and levying taxes among other duties. They concentrate on issues that are central to citizens’ needs and wishes.
The City Administrator, appointed by the Board of Aldermen, provides professional leadership in carrying out the policies and objectives formulated by the Board of Aldermen. This includes administering the planning, development, coordination and monitoring of programs and projects to ensure they meet the goals set by the Board of Aldermen.
The City Administrator works as a team with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, and may make recommendations to them.
City Administrator's Duties:
- Functions as the chief administrative assistant to the Mayor and chief operating officer of the city.
- Prepares and submits an annual budget and a five-year Capital Improvement Program to the Board for consideration
- Supervises over purchasing, budgeting, financial reporting, public relations, policy development, and personnel management.
- Serves as the Board’s chief advisor and makes recommendations regarding:
- Capital Improvements
- Municipal Financing
- Planning & Growth
- Economic Development
- Services and Programs
- Coordinates the day-to-day operation of all city departments to carry out the policies of the Board of Aldermen and ensure the citizens of Wentzville are being properly served.
- Responsible for the administration of all City Personnel
